My journey
In 2013 I began my career as a visual designer working for an agency. It was here that I found my passion for user-centered designs, creating a whole experience from journey start to journey end. In both digital and print media, I had to ensure users understood at a glance what information was being shared and what action to take.
After moving to a new company in 2021 as an in-house senior visual designer, I had the opportunity to work with the head of product design by taking on small UX projects. This quickly led to my transition in 2022 into the product team full-time. Becoming a senior UX UI designer has been the most rewarding experience in my career. The ability to actually help people through my designs and make positive changes in their lives is what drives me to succeed.
Some key designs I have created are…
dashboards
workflow builder
landing page builder
dialpad and contact book
IT asset management mobile app
report builder
user roles and permissions
telephony settings
form builder
AI chatbot
Working remotely
I have been a remote worker since the beginning of 2014, with both US and international coworkers. Using tools for asynchronous review allows me to successfully work across various time zones. Using layman's terms when I communicate not only makes things easier when working with coworkers where English isn't their first language, but also helps non-designers understand the conversation.
"When you picture an apple in your mind, do you see a real apple?" I asked this common question in one of my product meetings and discovered multiple team members cannot picture images in their mind. "When I send you a design to review, how do you review it?" Some of my team members feel comfortable in Figma and prefer to navigate the artboards themselves. Others find it confusing and always preview the file, reviewing comments that way.
We are all individuals and process information differently. By understanding each other better, we not only improve communication but build trust together. This is how I succeed as a remote worker.
